Examining My Relationship With Christ
Recently, one of readers sent in a reflection on how she was growing in her relationship with Christ. We were encouraged by it and thought we would share it with you.

A window. An ordinary object, but one that transforms our perspective with one look. The combination of our imperfections and Christ’s love for our human nature creates endless opportunities to strengthen the bond we have with Him. He takes delight in us, and wants to fulfill the desire of our hearts.
As I was praying before the Lord, I received the image of a window. Through further discernment, the Lord prompted me to examine my relationship with Him. As I sat there, the Lord revealed to me that I was behind the windowpane, and He was on the other side. I yearned to be on the other side with Him. He then explained that I must be the one to open the window and come to Him. As He helped me out of the window onto solid ground, I took one more glance back. In that moment, the Lord showed me that until then I had been living in a house separate from Him. I knew that Jesus had been there, guarding the house and waiting at the window for me. Then it became my decision whether I wanted to open the window; to fully accept the Lord and everything that comes with being His daughter. The Lord was calling me from a life which was separated into compartments and that prevented me from surrendering my whole life to Him. I kept Him in the section of my heart that was devoted to faith, and other areas were preserved for my friends, family, school, and so on. I would “fit” prayer into my daily life and then check it off the list of things to do. Living with my heart pulled in many different directions left me feeling exhausted and unfulfilled. Through my stubbornness, He called me deeper by inviting me to abandon trying to take control of my life. He wanted to be the center of my life and fill every space of my heart.
When I expressed my desire to live fully for Him, He glowed with love and excitement at the world that now awaited me. He led me by the hand and showed me everything beautiful that He created for me to enjoy.
For each individual, their prayer with Christ will look different. Some may be full of radiant light while others with lush pastures and mountains. The Lord knows what brings us joy and He desires to grant us that. For example, He revealed the beauty of discerning the vocation that He has molded specifically for me. He knows my heart, and just as a father rejoices as seeing his child overtaken by joy, so too does our Father in heaven desire good things for us. For me, He captures my heart through the irresistible melodies of a song, by exploring new places with my family, through spontaneous adventures with my closest friends, and most of all through spending time with Him in prayer and discovering His heart for me. He constantly surprises me with how beautiful this life is, and how these gifts are just a preview of being with Him in the true fulfillment of heaven.
Until then, He purifies us and makes every living thing beautiful in His time. May we believe and experience that a life lived for the Lord brings joy, freedom and fulfillment!
